The Ukrainian Weekly archive is open to the public. The current year’s issues, however, are reserved for online subscribers. If you are not a subscriber, we invite you to subscribe and have access to the latest Ukrainian news.

This website presents all issues (about 4,000) published since the newspaper’s founding in 1933 in iPaper, PDF and text formats. The iPaper version is better for reading online; the PDF format is well-suited for downloads on a personal computer; the HTML (Text) format is fast and searchable, but incomplete. The iPaper format is accessible from the HOME page (click on a page image); others - from the ARCHIVE page.

This website also includes the two-volume compilation of the most significant stories published in The Weekly from 1933 through 2000 titled “The Ukrainian Weekly 2000” and a collection of articles chronicling Ukraine’s drive toward independent statehood and the first 10 years of its independence titled “Ukraine Lives!” (see ARCHIVE).

If after several unsuccessive logins you can not see The Ukrainian Weekly web-site - your IP address is probably blocked on the server due to too many htpasswd login failures. Please contact our webmaster for help.

Why do I sometimes see strange characters in search results?

That is because the hidden searchable text layer was created by Optical Character Recognition (OCR) method. Very few corrections have been made to the OCR-ed text and no editing has been done to the content of the original documents due to its large volume.

Please note: Due to the varying quality of the newspapers included in the archive at the time of microfilming, character abnormalities, misspellings and abbreviations in the original text, not every incidence of a specific keyword, or phrase can be found with a Search feature.

Why the window is blank when I click a page image on the HOME page?

If you see only a blank space, you need to upgrade to the latest version of Flash. You can download it for free from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/

What is the best software for reading PDF files on this web-site?

We recommend installing/upgrading Adobe Reader to have the best experience with our Archive searches. You can download it for free from http://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions/

Why the window is blank when I open a PDF file?

If you open a PDF and the window is blank, and you get a file download dialog box, or if another program opens to display the PDF, this means your system is configured to view PDFs outside the browser.

If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can set your system to display PDFs in the browser by adjusting your preferences. Please note that many Macintosh systems are set by default to view PDFs outside the browser.

If you have problems viewing PDFs in the browser, you may want to try viewing PDFs directly in Acrobat Reader by downloading a file to your desktop first.

Why it looks like some pictures are missing in a PDF file?

Well, sometimes it happens with PDF files. If some of the images look as if they are missing elements, open the navigation panel in Acrobat Reader containing thumbnails of pages and click on any thumbnail to refresh the view.
