ANNE OLESNICKI IS "MISS SOYUZIVKA - 1961"


SOYUZIVKA has a new "Miss" to personify its beauty. On Saturday, September 17, at the special ceremony, which takes place annually at this Ukrainian National Association Estate, Anne Olesnicki, a native of New York was crowned MISS SOYUZIVKA for 1961.

Daughter of Roman and Claudia Olesnicki, Nana, as she is affectionately called by her friends, is a senior at Queens College where she is majoring in psychology. Her activities include the memberships in Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Plast, Ukrainian Students Club, and the KLK sports club.

Eight beautiful girls took part in this year's contest, and the panel of judges led by Mrs. Kvitka Steciuk of SVOBODA managing staff and including Messrs. Y. Burbelo, M. Lepkaluk, A. Pashchuk, Y. Kononiw, R. Rakochy, and A. Melnyk, selected two more girls as runners-up, namely Martha Kokurudz of Binhamton, N.Y. and Lida Babiy of New Haven, Connecticut.

Master of crowning ceremony was humorist Mykola Ponedilok, assisted by Kvitka Steciuk, and Orysia Machuk, the retiring Miss Soyuzivka placed the crown on the Nana Olesnicki.

Besides representing Soyuzivka throughout the year, and appearing on its various publications, the reigning Miss Soyuzivka will also receive a week's vacation at the UNA resort.

Of interest to some readers may be the fact that Miss Anne Olesnicki is already engaged to Yurko Shuhan, engineering student and member of that fine Plast fraternity Lisovi Chorty (Forest Devils).
