Ukrainian committee in Philadelphia bolsters Egan's campaign for mayor
PHILADELPHIA - The Ukrainian American Community Committee of Philadelphia for the Election of John Egan, Republican mayoral candidate, has begun a very active pre-election campaign, John Odezynsky recently reported.
Mr. Odezynsky, a member of the Republican Party and Ukrainian National Association supreme advisor, stated that Philadelphia's Republican mayoral candidate has visited with Ukrainians on a number of occasions.
Mr. Egan attended the UNA Day picnic, held in Horsham, Pa., in August, where he addressed an audience of 1,200 people.
He was also the guest of honor at a fund-raising party hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bijaliw. The event, held September 8, allowed Mr. Egan, who attended with Frances Weston, candidate for the office of controller, to meet Ukrainian community members. Both candidates participated in a question-and-answer period and explained their positions concerning vital and pressing problems in Philadelphia.
The campaign committee, headed by Mr. Odezynsky, planned to hold a banquet in honor of Mr. Egan on Sunday, October 9, with all proceeds earmarked for the campaign.
