Parish helps famine victims

TORONTO - The parishioners of St. Demetrius Ukrainian Catholic Church responded generously to a recent appeal for aid to the famine victims in Ethiopia. According to the Rev. Terry Lozynsky, pastor of the church, the parishioners contributed over $5,000 on one Sunday morning to the Ethiopian Relief Fund.

"Hopefully, a Christian will give from a sense of gratitude rather than from a sense of guilt, since guilt does not nourish giving, it gnaws away at the soul and leaves one depressed and powerless," stated the pastor. "Gratitude, on the other hand, opens one up to the greatest gift of all, life itself, and enables one to be recklessly generous," he added.
