LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Jewish Foundation helps Christians

Dear Editor:

Ukrainian Jewish relationships in America continue to be distant and sometimes sensitive. Less dialogue exists here than, for example, between Polish Americans and Jews.

An opportunity is now at hand to create some favorable contacts. This opportunity comes with the recent formation of The Jewish Foundation for Christian Rescuers. Organized in 1986 by a prominent California rabbi, the Jewish Foundation is committed to the recognition of and aid to those Christians who during the Holocaust years of World War II took significant risks to save Jewish lives. And to the extent that these rescuers are ill and needy, financial benefits will also be granted. At the present time almost 200 are being given some financial aid.

The Jewish Foundation for Christian Rescuers is eager to learn the names of qualifying Ukrainians living in the U.S. or elsewhere (so long as they can be contacted and recognized without political jeopardy). Some reasonable verification of the rescuers' actions should also be submitted to: The Jewish Foundation for Christian Rescuers/ADL 823 United Nations Plaza, N.Y., N.Y. 10017; Attn.: David Szonyi, Director.

Church groups and Ukrainian social organizations are encouraged to call the Jewish Foundation for additional information: (212) 490-2525, ext. 343.
