Thursday, December 31
- CHICAGO: The St. Nicholas School Board will hold its traditional New
Year's Eve gala at the Ukrainian Cultural Center of Ss. Volodymyr and Olha
parish, 2247 W. Chicago Ave. The evening will begin with cocktails at 8
p.m., followed by dinner at 9 p.m. The dance, featuring the Good Times
band, begins at 10:30 p.m. A silent auction will also be part of the evening's
events. Admission is $50 per person for the dinner and dance; $15 per person
for the dance only. A cash bar will be available all evening. Evening attire
is requested. Tickets may be purchased in advance at the St. Nicholas Parish
Rectory, (312) 276-4537 and Ss. Volodymyr and Olha Parish Rectory, (312)
829-5209. Tickets will be sold at the door for the dance only. Proceeds
from the event will benefit St. Nicholas School.
Sunday, January 3
- LECANTO, Fla.: A Country-Western-Bluegrass Music Show will be held
at 2 p.m. at Cowboy Junction, Highway 44 and Junction 490 as a benefit
for Manor Junior College in Jenkintown, Pa. Starring will be America's
Singing Flea Market Cowboy, Buddy Max. Admission is free, but donations
will be accepted, with proceeds to go to Manor Junior College.
Wednesday, January 6
- PARMA, Ohio: St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral's sixth annual
Christmas radio program for the sick and shut-in parishioners will be aired
on radio station WRMR - AM 850, 9-10 p.m. The program will consist of a
greeting from the parish clergy as well as traditional carols. Services
on Christmas Eve will be at 7:30 p.m and a divine liturgy on Christmas
Day, January 7 at 9:30 a.m.
Saturday, January 16
- PARMA, Ohio: The Brotherhood of St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral
will sponsor its 29th annual Malanka dinner-dance in the parish center
immediately following the 6 p.m. vespers in church. Tickets are $15 and
may be obtained by calling the rectory, (216) 886-1528.
ONGOING
- SASKATOON, Saskatchewan: A public opening and reception for the exhibit
"Symbols of Christmas" will be held from 2-4 p.m., at the Ukrainian
Museum of Canada, 910 Spadina Crescent East. The exhibit presentation by
Curator Rose Marie Fedorak, at 2:30 p.m. will explore ancient beliefs and
practices from winter solstice celebrations, look at the Christian celebration
of Christ's birth and describe the blending of the two in the Ukrainian
and other cultures. The exhibit continues until January 31. For further
