Newly elected deputy found dead

KYIV - Heorhiy Shevchenko, elected to the Ukrainian Supreme Council in by-elections on December 10, was found dead in his apartment on December 28.
The cause of death was listed as coal-gas poisoning, the Sevastopil Deputy Public Prosecutor Hryhoriy Tverdokhlib told Interfax-Ukraine on December 29. Foul play is not suspected. There were no injuries on the corpse and no signs of burglary in the Sevastopil apartment where the body was found.
Mr. Shevchenko, 64, a member of the Communist Party of Ukraine and a bureaucrat who worked for the Sevastopil city organization of the party, won election in the first round with 54 percent of the vote.
