- NEW YORK: The opening night of the season at the Metropolitan Opera
features soprano Maria Guleghina in Umberto Giordano's "Andrea Chenier."
Ms. Guleghina appears with Luciano Pavarotti and Juan Pons, with James
Levine, conducting. Performance time: 8 p.m. Tickets: $1,000, $500, $350
and $200. Ms. Guleghina will also perform on Thursday, October 3; Monday,
October 7; Friday, October 11; Tuesday, October 15; and, Friday, October

- CAMBRIDGE, Mass.: The Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute is holding
a presentation by Sara Sievers, director (U.S.), Project on the Oral History
of Ukraine, and graduate student fellow, HURI, and Margarita Hewko, director
(Ukraine), Project on the Oral History of Independent Ukraine, titled "In
Their Own Words: Ukrainian Leaders and the Independence They Built."
The presentation is being held at HURI, 1538 Massachusetts Ave., at 4-6

- PARAMUS, N.J.: The Ukrainian American Veterans' Adopt-a-Hospital Program,
with the help of other organizations and individuals, will be shipping
a 40-foot container of hospital equipment and supplies from the Bergen
Pines Hospital in Paramus to the Tsentralna Rayonna Likarnia in Zboriv,
Ternopil Oblast. Volunteers are needed to help with the loading. For more

- FORT WORTH, Texas: The Zorya Ukrainian Dancers of Dallas will perform
at the Fort Worth Oktoberfest, 6:15-7:15 p.m. The festival benefits the

- JENKINTOWN, Pa.: Manor Junior College will celebrate its Ukrainian
heritage during the 19th annual Ukrainian Festival to be held on the college's
campus, 700 Fox Chase Road, at noon-5 p.m. The festival features master
craftsman and folk art demonstrations, traditional folk costumes and craft
exhibits, children's activities, including pony and hay rides, and a variety
of ethnic foods. Highlighting the festival are traditional dance and musical
performances. Appearing will be the Voloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble,
the Vesna Dance Ensemble and School of Dance, the Soloveyky Children's
Vocal Ensemble and musical and vocal ensemble Lvivyany. Tickets: $4, adults;
$1, children. Parking is free. The festival will be held on October 6,

- ROCHESTER, N.Y.: The building committee of The Ukrainian Museum in
New York and Branches 46, 47 and 120 of the Ukrainian National Women's
League of America will celebrate the 20th anniversary of The Ukrainian
Museum with a luncheon at St. Josaphat School Auditorium, 940 Ridge Road
E., at 1:30 p.m. Guest speakers will be John Luchechko, president, The
Ukrainian Museum board of trustees, and George Sawycky, architect, project
designer for the new Ukrainian Museum building. There will be a slide presentation

- NEW YORK: The Harriman Institute and the Institute on East Central
Europe is holding a presentation by Sara Sievers, director (U.S.), Project

- COLUMBIA, Md.: The League of Ukrainian Catholics will hold its 58th
annual convention. The convention theme is "Our Church Beyond 2000."
Among the many activities are the breakfast, workshops and banquet/dance
on Saturday, October 12. Breakfast speaker is Sister Helena Paskevich SSMI.
Workshop presenters are Sister Marina Bochnewich OSBM, the Rev. Steve Paliwoda
and Deacon Paul Makar. Banquet speaker is Dr. William H. Johnston, director,

- CHICAGO: The Ukrainian Philatelic and Numismatic Society will celebrate
its 45th anniversary at its Ukrainpex '96 stamp and coin show, to be held
at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, 2320 Chicago Ave. The show will
include several dealers of Ukraine postage stamps and an open exhibition
of stamps, postal history, coins and paper money. Awards for exhibits will
be presented at a banquet held Saturday, October 12, at the Ukrainian Cultural
Center. A special postal cancellation will be provided by the United States
Postal Service. Show hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Free admission.

- HARTFORD, Conn: The Zolotyi Promin Ukrainian Dance Group announces
the start of its third season of dance instruction. Enrollment is open
