- NEW YORK: The Les Kurbas Theater of Lviv, under the direction of Volodymyr
Kuchynsky, will present a revival of Lina Kostenko's verse novel "Marusia
Churay" at the Ukrainian Institute of America, 2 E. 79th St., at 3

- WASHINGTON: The Les Kurbas Theater of Lviv, under the direction of
Volodymyr Kuchynsky, will present a program dedicated to the memory of
the late poet, literary critic, human rights activist and former dissident
Ivan Svitlychny, to be held at the Embassy of Ukraine at 6 p.m.
Friday, February 27
- NEWARK, N.J.: St. John's Ukrainian Catholic School, Sanford Avenue
and Ivy Street, will be hosting an open house at the school at 1-3 p.m.
Sister Chrysostom OSBM, school principal, will speak about the school's
mission and programs as well as the kindergarten curriculum. Children will

- NEW YORK: The Shevchenko Scientific Society is holding a lecture by
Dr. Tarmara Hundorowa, Institute of Literature, National Academy of Sciences
of Ukraine, who will speak on the topic "The Meaning of Modernism
in Ukrainian Literature" as well as present her book on Ukrainian
Modernism. The lecture will be held at the society's building, 63 Fourth
Ave., at 5 p.m.

- MAPLEWOOD, N.J.: The Les Kurbas Theater of Lviv will present the premier
of Lesia Ukrainka's classic Don Juan play "Kamiany Hospodar,"
(The Stone Host) at the Burgdorff Cultural Center, Durand Road (off of
Maplewood Avenue). Tickets: $20; $15, senior citizens and students. For

- NEW YORK: The Plast Ukrainian Youth Organization is presenting their
annual children's play "Chervona Shapochka," in St. George Ukrainian
Catholic School gym, Taras Shevchenko Place, at 2 p.m. The program will
also include a children's masquerade, games and activities, and a buffet.
- TORONTO: The "Legacy of Trypillia" exhibit will open at the
Ukrainian Museum of Canada (Ontario branch) located in the St. Vladimir
Institute, 620 Spadina Ave. Guest speaker at the exhibit opening will be
Roman Zuba. Exhibit hours: Sundays, 1-4 p.m. and Thursdays, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

- CAMBRIDGE, Mass.: The Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute, as part
of its seminar series, presents Serhiy Yekelchyk, Ph.D. candidate, department
of history and classics, University of Alberta, who will speak on the topic
"The Kozak Gold: A Microhistory of the Ukrainian National Myth in
the 1990s." The lecture will be held in the HURI Seminar Room, 1583
Massachusetts Ave., at 4-6 p.m.
- NEW HAVEN, Conn.: The performance of "Blahorodnyi Erodii"
(Grace-given Erodii), Hryhorii Skovoroda's 18th century philosophic dialogue,
will be presented by the Les Kurbas Theater, in assocaition with Yale University,
at Artspace, 70 Audubon St., at 8:30 p.m.

- NEW HAVEN, Conn.: The department of Slavic languages and literatures
and the Yale-Ukraine Initiative are holding a lecture by George G. Grabowicz,
Dmytro Cyzevskyj Professor of Ukrainian Literature, Harvard University,
who will speak on the topic "Franko and Mickiewicz: The Anxiety of
Influence Revisited." The lecture will be held at Yale University,
Hall of Graduate Studies, 320 York St., Room 401, at 4 p.m.
- TORONTO: "Customs and Traditions: A Canadian Ukrainian Perspective"
will be the topic of a presentation by Tania Onyschuk, director, Cziopa
Palijiw Ukrainian Heritage School, detailing the ways Ukrainian customs
and traditions have evolved within the Canadian context. The lecture will
be held at St. Vladimir Institute, 620 Spadina Ave., at 7:30 p.m.

Churai" at the Ukrainian Educational and Cultural Center, Abington,
Pa., at 7 p.m.

- FOX CHASE MANOR, Pa.: The Sisters of St. Basil the Great Basilian Spirituality
Center is hosting a Retreat Day at the Basilian Motherhouse, 710 Fox Chase
Road, at 1-5 p.m. The Retreat Day program will reflect on the meaning and
invitation of the "Great Fast" and its journey to the Resurrection.
It will be facilitated by Sister Mariana Bochnewich OSBM, director, Basilian

- PALATINE, Ill.: Ukrainian American Veterans Post 32 will hold an organizational
meeting at 4-5 p.m. to discuss program topics and the UAV national convention.
All veterans having served in the U.S. armed forces are invited to attend.
The meeting will take place at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, 136 E. Illinois.

a meeting with Michael O. Logusz, author of "Galicia Division,"

Illinois, at 6 p.m. Mr. Logusz will present an overview of his book in

- CHICAGO: The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art presents a concert featuring
pianist Juliana Osinchuk in a program of works by Kosenko, Clementi and
Gershwin. The concert will be held at the institute, 2320 W. Chicago Ave.,
at 2 p.m.
- FOX CHASE MANOR, Pa.: The Sisters of St. Basil the Great Basilian Spirituality
Center is hosting an afternoon of recollection for young adults age 18
and over, married or single, titled "The Pursuit of Happiness,"
to be held at the Basilian Motherhouse, 710 Fox Chase Road, at 2-5 p.m.
The facilitation team will include Sister Mariana Bochnewich OSBM, director,
Basilian Spirituality Center; the Rev. John Ciurpita, pastor, St. Michael's
Parish, Cherry Hill, N.J.; Mary Ann Grimm, teacher at Archbishop Neale
School, Md.; and Zoriana Luckyj, licensed social worker and psychotherapist.
The day is a collaborative effort of the Basilian Spirituality Center,
the Millennium Committee of the Philadelphia Archeparchy, the League of
Ukrainian Catholics and representatives of the Young Adults of the Diocese.
Cost for the afternoon program (refreshments included): $15. Those interested

- EDMONTON: The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University
of Alberta is holding a lecture by Dr. Volodymyr Mezentsev, Pontifical
Institute of Medieval Studies, on the topic "Kyivan Masonry Construction
under Princess Olha and Prince Volodymyr the Great: Recent Findings."
The presentation will be held in the CIUS Library, 352 Athabasca Hall,
at 3:30 p.m.
