Cheres plays in East Village pub

NEW YORK: Cheres, the best-known Ukrainian folk band in the U.S., is now playing Brewski's in the East Village on a regular basis.

Eastern European folk aficionados can hear Carpathian music as it should be heard - played by virtuosos. The group's musical arsenal includes wooden pipes, soprano and tenor pipes, double pipe, trembita (a 12-foot-long shepherd's pipe), tylynka, panpipe, bagpipe, ocarina (or sweet potato), mountain harp, clarinet, fiddle, hammered dulcimer, double bass, accordion, drum, and other percussion instruments.

Cheres performances are every Friday night (at 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.) and Sunday afternoon (at 1-3 p.m.).

There is no cover charge. Brewski's is located on East Seventh Street, between Second and Third avenues.
