- PARMA, Ohio: St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral will sponsor
its 13th annual Christmas radio program for sick and elderly shut-in parishioners.
The entire Christmas divine liturgy will be broadcast live at 10 a.m. to
noon over radio station WERE, 1300 AM. The liturgy will be celebrated by
the Rev. John Nakonachny, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Volodymyr Steliac
and the Rev. Deacon Ihor Mahlay. Responses will be sung by the Ukrainian
and English choirs of the cathedral, directed by Markian Komichak. In addition,
Great Complines and Matins will be celebrated St. Vladimir's at 7:30 p.m.
on Thursday, January 6.

- NEW YORK: The New York City Branch of Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization
invites all children to come join us for some "kutia" and Christmas
caroling at the annual "Svichechka" at 10:30 a.m. in the Plast
building, 144 Second Ave. (corner of Ninth Street). Plast members should
attend in full uniform.

- NEW YORK: "Bread with Honey: A Performance of Dance and Music"
will be presented at The Bridge for Dance, featuring choreography by Katja
Pylyshenko Kolcio and music by Julian Kytasty and Alex Kytasty. The concert
- with additional performances on Saturday, January 22 and Friday, January
28 - will take place at 8:30 p.m. at The Bridge for Dance, 2726 Broadway,
third floor, between 104th and 105th streets (take No. 1, 9 train to 103rd

- NEW HAVEN, Conn.: The Yale-Ukraine Initiative and the department of
Slavic languages and literatures present "A Concert of Traditional
Ukrainian Christmas Music," featuring a vocal and instrumental folk
ensemble from Kyiv composed of violinist Oksana Stebelska, bandurists Nadiya
Boyanivska and Myroslav Tsupryk, and musician Roman Kuka. Ensemble members
have been affiliated with the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, the Kyiv
Conservatory of Music and the Tchaikovsky Music Academy in Kyiv. Program
includes ancient carols, Church chants and psalms, pagan ritual and contemporary
folk songs. The works will be performed a cappella or with instrumental
accompaniment (classical and modern bandura, tsymbaly, zozulia, folk flute
[sopilka], pan flute, bells, etc.). The concert will take place in Yale
University's Sudler Hall in William L. Harkness Hall, 100 Wall St., at
8 p.m. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public. The ensemble
is on a U.S. tour of with performances in New York, Chicago and Washington,
sponsored by the Chopivsky Family Foundation. For further information call

- CHICAGO: The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art (UIMA) presents "Shitter,
Get Off the Pot! Dislocation in Contemporary Art." The exhibition,
curated by New York-based artist Marye Carter, examines dislocation and
misinterpretation using the commonplace materials of everyday experience
and tweaking their meaning. This celebration of displacement in the context
of popular culture will feature work by New York artists Doug Anson, Adam
Cvijanovic, Yram Retrac, Kristine Robinson, Bill Scanga, Sally Van Gorder
and Tamara Zahaykevich. The exhibit runs through February 27. The opening
reception will be held at the institute, 2320 W. Chicago Ave., on January
16. Gallery hours: Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, noon-4
p.m.

- DENVER: "Mellenium Melanka!" Come join Ukrainian National
Women's League of America Branch 38 for a Malanka celebration in beautiful
Denver. Bring in the new century with dinner and dancing to the music of
Ostap Stahiv and singers of Cleveland, and lots of other fun. Advance purchase
tickets: $35 for dinner and dance; $15 for dance only; $10 for students.

- NEW YORK: "The Idiot," a play based on Dostoyevsky's work
as directed by Anatole Fourmantchouk, is playing at the Theater of the
New City, 155 First Ave. (at 10th Street). Tickets, at $45, or $25 for
students and seniors, may be purchased one hour before the performance

Performances, which began December 28 and run through January 23, are on
