Embassy celebrates holiday season

WASHINGTON - The Ukrainian Embassy celebrated the holiday season with a Christmas concert on January 19 featuring the Ukrainian Colors ensemble from Kyiv and an art exhibit. The musical trio - Nadia Boianivska, Oksana Stebelska and Myroslav Tsupryk - performed traditional and contemporary Ukrainian Christmas carols and Epiphany and New Year songs (schedrivky), as well as a few selections of sacred music and the English-language "Sussex Carol." The Embassy's main reception hall, in which the concert took place, also hosted an exhibit of works of contemporary artists Serhiy Hay and Ivan Tverdun of Ukraine. The two artists were in Washington in conjunction with a monthlong exhibition of their works at the Alla Rogers Gallery, located just a few blocks from the Embassy in the capital's historic Georgetown district.
