Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization celebrates 50th anniversary in the U.S.
NEW YORK - Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization is celebrating it's 50th year of existence in the United States with national and local events, as well as the release of merchandise tying in to this anniversary.
The celebration officially began in October 1999 at the Plast's national "zyizd" (convention) and continues through 2000. Many Plast branches have already held their local commemorative events. National events are being planned by a committee that is headed by Halyna Kutko.
The culmination of the national celebration will be a jamboree, to be held in the Adirondack State Park in upstate New York on August 12-19. The jamboree committee, headed by George Sawicki, is currently organizing the weeklong program, which will focus on scouting and camping in the wilderness - the basis of most of Plast's work with youth. More information about the Jamboree can be obtained through the official website: http://www.plast.org/jamboree2000.
All branches of Plast members - from the youngest to oldest scouts, as well as parents - will camp with their stanytsi during this jamboree. The weeklong program will include hiking, canoeing, mountaineering, trips to the nearby Adirondack Museum, and many more Plast-themed events.
