USUF announces fund-raising drive

WASHINGTON - The coal mine disaster in the city of Krasnodon in eastern Ukraine took the lives of more than 80 miners. It also left over 125 children, of whom 71 are under the age of 15, fatherless.

The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to building peace and prosperity through shared democratic values for both nations, has a special relationship with Krasnodon since a community partnership was established between Krasnodon and Birmingham, Ala., in 1998 through the Foundation's Community Partnerships Project, a program funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development. Krasnodon is located in an economically depressed area where many miners have not been paid for months.

The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation has announced that it would like to help the mining families in Krasnodon at this hour of their great need, and that donations to the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation are being accepted for this purpose. Checks should be made out to the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation/Mine Disaster.

Donations (which are tax-deductible as provided by law) may be sent to: The U.S.-Ukraine Foundation, 733 15th St. NW, Suite 1026, Washington, DC 20005. For further information call the U.S.-Ukraine Foundation, (202) 347-4264.
