Bishop Losten greets women
Below is the text of a statement by Bishop Basil H. Losten, Eparchy of Stamford, in his invitation to the International Jubilee Day for Women.
The contribution of women to the Ukrainian Catholic Church in the world, in the United States, in the Eparchy of Stamford and in its parishes could never be honestly categorized or weighed. From the earliest days of our Church in this country, women gave of their time, their talents and their treasures to secure the establishment of our Church.
This contribution came through their efforts as mothers and wives bringing the faith into the home. It came as religious women who abandoned home and sometimes country to minister here as educators and ministers to the sick, orphaned and infirm. It came as young women who stood firm in their Church and did not abandon it when it was not the popular place to be.
It came through the hard work of women who raised the funds through many varied efforts to build churches, schools and other religious institutions. Many of our parishes could honestly say that the Church is built on pyrohy. It came through the hours spent teaching others the traditions of our Church and nation. It came through women keeping the faith and traditions of our Church and nation alive in their lives and in their hearts.
For this reason, the Eparchy of Stamford wishes to publicly express its gratitude to the self-sacrificing lives of its women.
