Konowal memorial to be unveiled in Kutkiw
KUTKIW, Ukraine - On the 83rd anniversary of Filip Konowal's heroism at the Battle for Hill 70 on the Western Front during World War I, Canada's Ukrainian community, spearheaded by Branch 360 of the Royal Canadian Legion, with the assistance of the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Association, on August 21 will unveil a trilingual plaque and a statue of Canada's only Victoria Cross winner, prepared by Lviv sculptor, Petro Kulyk. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Konowal's home village of Kutkiw.
The event is open to the public. Those participating will receive a special Filip Konowal VC lapel pin and a copy of the second revised edition of a trilingual booklet detailing Konowal's valor, titled "Konowal: A Canadian Hero."
