Slobodyanik to open concert season of New Philharmonic of New Jersey


MORRISTOWN, N.J. - Alexander Slobodyanik will open the concert season of the New Philharmonic of New Jersey with a performance of Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major. The concert with the New Philharmonic, under the baton of Leon Hyman, will take place Saturday, October 28, at The Community Theater, 100 South St., at 8 p.m.

The concert, the first of four this season, will include the performance of Rossini's "Overture to William Tell" and Beethoven's Symphony No. 6.

Since winning the Chopin and Tchaikovsky international piano competitions, Mr. Slobodyanik, renowned as "a virtuoso of the first rank," has been performing around the world with leading orchestras and conductors for over 30 years.

In 1993 he founded the Morris International Festival of the Arts, which reopened Morristown's Community Theater in the town where he currently resides. Mr. Slobodyanik performed in the first concert at the theater in September 1994 with the Kirov Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev.
