- EDMONTON: Dr. Iaroslav Isaievych, director, Institute of Ukrainian
Studies at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Lviv, will give
a lecture on "Neo-Panslavism in Contemporary East European Politics
and Scholarship." The lecture, sponsored by the Canadian Institute

- NEW YORK: The Ukrainian Museum will host an author's evening for Ukrainian
American writer Irene Zabytko, author of the popular novel "The Sky
Unwashed." The event will be held at 7 p.m. at the museum, 203 Second
Ave. Ms. Zabytko will read excerpts from her book and autograph copies.

- OTTAWA: The Chair of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Ottawa
is holding its third conference in the "Towards a New Ukraine"
series, subtitled "Geopolitical Imperatives of Ukraine: Regional Contexts."
The conference will cover Ukraine's relations with Russia, Poland, Germany
and Europe, and strategic and security issues. Eleven speakers from Canada,
Ukraine, Germany, Poland, the United States and the United Kingdom will
speak in consecutive sessions; among them, are: Dr. Olga Alexandrova, Dr.

- PHILADELPHIA: Ukrainian National Women's League of America Branch 43
invites the public to a literary evening for Olha Kuzmowycz, journalist
and editor at Svoboda, on the occasion of the publication of her book "Pro
Tse i Te" (This and That: Collected Short Stories and Essays). Taking
part in the program are Anna Maksymowych, Dr. Larissa Onyshkevych, Zenon
Snylyk and Dr. Vasyl Lopukh, with Liudmyla Chajkowsky, mistress of ceremonies.
A musical program will feature Nestor Kyzymyshyn and Halya Mazurok-Ray.
The evening will close with a light buffet, overseen by Maria Danyliv.

- MORRISTOWN, N.J.: Alexander Slobodyanik will open the concert season
of the New Philharmonic of New Jersey with the performance of Prokofiev's
Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Major. The New Philharmonic, under the direction
of Leon Hyman, will also perform works by Rossini and Beethoven. The concert

- NEW YORK: The choir of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Parish
of Olyphant, Pa., will sing liturgical responses in Old Church Slavonic
at St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, 30 E. Seventh St., at the 10 a.m.
divine liturgy, celebrated by the Rev. Lawrence Lawryniuk. The 112-year-old
choir is considered to be the oldest of its kind to continue in the tradition
of Old Church Slavonic consecutively since its inception in 1888. The choir
is under the direction of Patrick J. Marcinko II, a noted musician and
composer. The public is invited.
- NEW YORK: "Maskarada: A Costume Party for Children" with
Marta Sawycky, director of Muzychne Doshkillia (Music and Me), will be

- EDMONTON: Derek Fraser, Canada's ambassador to Ukraine, will give a
lecture titled "Whither Ukraine?" at 3:30 p.m. in Heritage Lounge,
Athabasca Hall. The lecture is sponsored by the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian
Studies, University of Alberta. Ambassador Fraser, LL.B., joined Canada's
Department of Foreign Affairs in 1963. Since then he has served in Saigon,
Bonn, Moscow and Brussels. From 1988 to 1993 he was ambassador to Hungary,
and from 1995 to 1998 ambassador to Greece. In Canada, Mr. Fraser has held
a number of posts in foreign affairs, including director, USSR and Eastern
Europe Relations Division, and Western Europe II Division. Mr. Fraser was
appointed Canada's ambassador to Ukraine in July 1998. For further information
