UNA Christmas cards to benefit Soyuzivka

by Oksana Trytjak
UNA Special Projects Coordinator

PARSIPPANY, N.J. - In the spirit of Christmas and the new millennium, the Ukrainian National Association is publishing a new series of Christmas cards. Every year the UNA has enjoyed the tremendous support of the community and as a result it can continue to subsidize many projects. All the projects benefit the Ukrainian community at large be it in Ukraine, the United States or Canada. This year, however, the proceeds from the Christmas Card Project will go toward supporting Soyuzivka.

The new series includes 14 different cards with a traditional Christmas theme. They include various genres: pen, pencil and ink, embroidery, oil, acrylic, painting on reverse glass, scraper board, mixed media and stained glass. The cost of the packet of 14 cards is $15. The cards will be mailed to subscribers of Svoboda and The Ukrainian Weekly.

The UNA has long recognized and promoted Ukrainian art and culture. Over the past few years the UNA has promoted many Ukrainian artists by publishing their works on its Christmas cards. In turn, the UNA has been fortunate to have artists agree to participate in this project.

The artists who this year contributed their work are: Jaroslav Adamovych, Lviv, Ukraine; Bohdan Borzemsky, Teaneck, N.J.; Marta Cisyk, Lviv; Natalia Jospychuk, Kosiv, Ukraine; Andriy Khomyk, Stamford, Conn.; Moki Kokoris, North Salem, N.Y.; George Kozak, Clarkston, Mich.; Luba Maksymchuk, Kyiv; Leo Mol, Winnipeg; Myron Ryzhula, Lviv, Lydia C. Palij, Toronto; Aka Pereyma, Troy, Ohio; Youlia Tkatchouk, Chicago; and Irene Twerdochlib, Rochester, N.Y. These artists contribute their work with no honorarium other than the publicity offered them in the UNA's newspapers. Readers are urged to support not only the project, but also the artists (should readers wish to contact any of the artists directly, they may contact the UNA's special projects coordinator for further information.)

By purchasing these cards you are supporting the UNA and Soyuzivka, promoting Ukrainian traditions and culture, encouraging Ukrainian artists and spreading the Christmas spirit throughout the community.
