Northampton parochial school events will mark Catholic Schools Week

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. - St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic School is cordially inviting the public to attend a full schedule of events in celebration of the annual Catholic Schools Week from Monday, January 29, through Friday, February 2.

Activities include: a program of song and dance celebrating the Ukrainian heritage of the school at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, January 29; divine liturgy at 8:30 a.m. in the parish church followed by a religion program in the school auditorium at 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30; a student talent show at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, February 1; a faculty-student basketball game at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 2; and an encore performance of the talent show at 6:15 p.m., on Saturday, February 3.

St. John's provides a quality educational experience from pre-school through the eighth grade, focusing on academic excellence within a framework of Eastern Christian faith and values. Highlights of St. John's curriculum include extensive computer education, Ukrainian language and culture classes, full-day kindergarten instruction, and educational field trips for all grades.

St. John's also offers small intimate class size, remedial educational assistance, hot lunch, an after-school-care program and after-school extra-curricular sports and activities. Students can be bused from all the major Lehigh Valley school districts, including the Northampton, Whitehall/Coplay, Parkland, Northern Lehigh, Northwestern Lehigh, Allentown, Catasauqua and Bethlehem school districts.

Interested parents are welcome to tour the school during Catholic Schools Week by setting up an appointment with Colleen Berger, Vice-Principal and kindergarten teacher, or Michael Duda, Principal. Please contact St. John's at (610) 262-2231 weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Preschool through eighth grade registration will be conducted January 31 through February 2 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children must be 5 years of age by November 30 to be eligible for the full-day kindergarten program.
