UKRAINIAN INDEPENDENCE DAY: Celebrations throughout North America

CHICAGO - The Ukrainian American Community of Greater Chicago observed the 10th anniversary of Ukraine's independence with a multi-faceted commemoration. On August 23 Mayor Richard Daley held a reception for the Ukrainian community at the Chicago Cultural Center. On August 24 a flag-raising ceremony took place in the city center at Daley Plaza. The next day there was a concert of music and dance at the North Shore Performing Arts Center. A march and rally on Sunday, September 26, culminated at the Ukrainian Cultural Center and at that time a memorial plaque marking the 10th anniversary of Ukraine's independence was unveiled.
