Basilian Sisters strive to collect memories for special publication
FOX CHASE MANOR, Pa. - The Sisters of St. Basil the Great and the Ukrainian Catholic Church have come a long way since the sisters first came to the United States from Ukraine in 1911. Called by Bishop Soter Ortynsky to help care for educational and physical needs of the Ukrainian people, the sisters responded generously to the various needs.
Today, the Sisters of St. Basil continue to be faithful to that original spirit, which animated the lives of the first sisters. They journey in faith toward the Trinity and share their praying, healing, life-giving presence in education, pastoral ministry, religious education and diocesan support.
On the occasion of the order's 90th anniversary, it is especially appropriate to say thank you to each and every person who served and serves with the Sisters of St. Basil in various educational institutions, Manor College and St. Basil Academy and St. Basil School; in the sisters' Motherhouse and Basilian Spirituality Center, in parish schools and pastoral ministry offices.
The Basilian Sisters would like to celebrate in book form all the memories readers have shared on this journey. A small monetary prize has been established (first prize - a $100 U.S. Savings Bond; second and third prize - $50 U.S. Savings Bonds) for the top three stories. All the stories published will be documented with the person's name and parish. Readers are asked to submit stories and memories of the sisters who have touched their lives; please send pictures of events you experienced with the sisters with a commentary of their effect on your life.
Entries shoud be sent no later than May 1, 2002, to: Sister Ann Laszok OSBM, 542 Melrose Ave., Ambridge, PA 15003.
