Bishop Losten and community leaders celebrate Feast Day of St. Basil the Great
STAMFORD, Conn. - Bishop Basil Losten hosted a luncheon reception on Saturday, January 12, here at St. Basil's Seminary on the occasion of St. Basil's Feast Day. It was the 24th year that this gathering was held by the primate of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Stamford. Present were leaders of various Ukrainian community organizations and institutions that are active in the metropolitan New York area and on the territory of the Stamford Eparchy, including Ukrainian credit unions in New York and Yonkers, numerous lay leaders, clergymen and nuns, as well as a representative of Ukraine's diplomatic corps, Vice-Consul Heorhii Shevchenko of the Consulate General in New York City, who read a special message from Prime Minister Anatolii Kinakh. A special guest was Archbishop Antony of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the U.S.A. (seen above with Bishop Losten). Some 100 people attended the event, which featured the presentation of a "vertep," a traditional Nativity play, by students of the local school of Ukrainian studies (seen in the photo below), Many of the attendees came bearing monetary gifts in support of Bishop Losten's work and his favorites causes, such as St. Basil's Seminary and the eparchy's newspaper, The Sower.
