Graduates with honors from school of law

BALTIMORE - Marko Wadym Kipa graduated with the degree of Juris Doctor with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law on May 24.
He also was inducted into Phi Delta Phi, the International Legal Honors Society and received the Morris Brown Myerowitz Moot Court Award for his performance in the 31st Annual Morris Brown Myerowitz Moot Court Competition, in which he won the Best Appellate Brief Award and was a semifinalist in the oral argument category.
Earlier he was one of three individuals selected to represent the University of Maryland School of Law at the 17th Dean Jerome Prince Memorial Evidence Moot Court Competition at Brooklyn Law School.
While in law school Mr. Kipa served as executive editor of the University of Maryland Journal of Health Care Law and Policy. His article, "Shalala v. Illinois Council on Long-Term Care: Confounding the Crisis in Nursing Home Care with an Unneeded Jurisdictional Channeling Requirement," was published in the journal's spring 2001 issue.
In his second and third years, he was a teaching assistant in appellate advocacy, legal analysis, research and writing, as well as a fellow in the writing program.
He also served as a Rule 16 attorney pursuant to the rules governing admission to the Bar of Maryland and successfully represented criminal defendants in Maryland district and circuit courts and was an Asper Fellow at the office of the district attorney in Lehigh County, Pa.
He also completed several internships, including one with the Conservative Party central office in London, another with the Pylyp Orlyk Institute for Democracy in Kyiv and one with the United States Court of Federal Claims in Washington.
After graduating with honors from William Allen High School in Allentown, Pa., and earning his "matura" in Ukrainian studies at "Nasha Ukrainska Ridna Shkola" in Philadelphia, Mr. Kipa attained his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude in history and political science from Muhlenberg College. He was inducted into several national honor societies, including those in history and political science.
In September Mr. Kipa will begin a federal clerkship for Judge Bohdan A. Futey of the United States Court of Federal Claims.
A son of Oksana and Albert Kipa of Allentown, Pa., Marko Kipa is a member of Branch 47 of the Ukrainian National Association.
