USCAK board discusses activities, plans sports events for the future
EAST HANOVER, N.J. - At a board meeting of the Ukrainian Sports Federation of the U.S.A. and Canada (known by its Ukrainian acronym as USCAK) held on May 29 at the Ramada Hotel various sports representatives gave their reports and future USCAK events were announced.
The meeting was conducted by USCAK President Myron Stebelsky, who greeted everyone present and then read the meeting's agenda, which was accepted as read. Mr. Stebelsky also spoke about his and his board's activities during the last few months.
In April Mr. Stebelsky traveled to Toronto, where he met with Constantine Cholij, his third assistant and head of USCAK-Canada. At this meeting Mr. Stebelsky was given information about sports clubs in Toronto and the surrounding areas, and their activities.
Mr. Stebelsky also recently had talks with his second assistant, Volodymyr Pavelchak, who is head of USCAK-West, headquartered in Chicago. Mr. Pavelchak represented USCAK at the Chicago reception for Vitalyii Klitschko; an USCAK honorary certificate was given to the new champion. Mr. Pavelchak was also the official representative of USCAK at the Greak Lakes Cup soccer tournament held in May in Detroit.
Eugene Chyzhowych, soccer chairman, reported on his preparations for the soccer tournament that occurred in May and spoke of future games as well. Another USCAK soccer tournament is scheduled for July 3-4 at Glen Spey, N.Y., and the final one of this year is to take place during Labor Day weekend.
Severyn Palydowych, skiing chairman, spoke about the KLK ski competition held near Hunter, N.Y. Roman Pyndus represented USCAK at this competition and Irenej Isajiw gave champions of the ski races USCAK patches in recognition of their achievements.
Orest Fedash, volleyball chairman, spoke about the renewal of volleyball in USCAK. A volleyball tournament set for next year was also announced.
Dr. Orest Popovych, chess chairman, sent in his report about the chess tournament held on May 14-15 at the Ramada Hotel. Chornomorska Sitch hosted the tournament and funded the purchase of all the trophies. Boris Bachinsky of Philadelphia sports club Tryzub won the tournament, while second and third places went to Petro Radomsky and Stefan Stojko, respectively, both representing Chornomorska Sitch.
Basil Tarasko, chairman of baseball and softball, expressed his desire to be as active in the U.S. as he is in Ukraine. He also called for tournaments in those sports to take place in America.
George Sawchak, tennis chairman, who sent in a written report, mentioned the spring tennis tournament at Tryzub, and two other future tournaments. The first is to take place during the Fourth of July weekend and the other on Labor Day weekend; both will be held at Soyuzivka.
Maria Bokalo, swimming chairman, was not present at the meeting, but included in her statement information about this year's swimming championships at Soyuzivka.
Myron Pryjmak, sports representative for SUM, reported on current developments related to that youth organization. He stated that teams from SUM plan to take part in volleyball tournaments and told the board that he wishes to renew the youth sports games in Ellenville, N.Y., at the SUM Oselia.
After Alex Napora, financial secretary, gave his detailed report of clubs' dues payments to USCAK. Mr. Twardowsky spoke about arrangements to make all of the tournaments a success. Mr. Stebelsky reminded everyone that next year is the 50th anniversary of USCAK. It was decided that a jubilee banquet and dance would be perfect to commemorate this milestone.
