- NEW YORK: The Ukrainian American Community Committee invites the public
to attend a banquet welcoming President Viktor Yushchenko to New York.
The banquet will be held at The Pierre, Fifth Avenue at 61st Street in
New York City. Tickets are $300 per person. The event begins at 7 p.m.
with cocktails, followed by dinner at 8 p.m. Dark suit attire is requested.

- SILVER SPRING, Md.: The third annual Washington Ukrainian Festival
will be held on the grounds of St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral,
15100 New Hampshire Ave. The festival will feature Ukrainian and grilled
foods, Ukrainian music and dance performances, children's activities, and
the Market Place (Ukrainian handicrafts, art, clothing, ceramics, novelties,
jewelry, music/videos, books and more). The official opening is Saturday
at noon. The zabava (dance) is at 9 p.m. that evening in the church Founders'
Hall. Parking is free; admission: $5 per person (age 16 and under, free).

- NEW YORK: Mezzo-soprano Natasha Tarasova will perform a program of
Mussorgsky's "Songs and Dances of Death," works by Tchaikovsky,
Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, as well as popular Ukrainian
songs. The concert, which begins at 8 p.m. at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie
Hall, is Ms. Tarasova's New York debut. The concert is presented by the
Stowe Summer Music Festival. Ms. Tarasova, a native of St. Petersburg,
Russia, graduated from the Odesa Conservatory in Ukraine and holds master's
degrees from the National Beaux Arts Institute in Ukraine. Tickets: $25;

Sunday, September 25
- WARREN, Mich.: A benefit luncheon and fashion show hosted by the Ukrainian
National Women's League of America, Branches 53 and 96 of the Detroit Regional
Council, will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Ukrainian Cultural Center, 26601
Ryan Road. Proceeds will be used to aid handicapped children of the Dnipropetrovsk
Orphanage in Ukraine. The show will feature contemporary women's fashions
with Ukrainian embroidery provided by Alexandra Sawyn of Chicago from her
personal collection. Included in the program also will be a performance
by the Soloveyky Quartet under the musical direction of Olga Dubrivny-Solovey.
Drawings will be held for various prizes. Donation: $25 per person. For
