A revival of the espionage genre, “Death of a Spymaster: A New Ukrainian Spy Thriller” by Russell R. Miller begins in Washington with a mysterious death. Charlie Connelly agrees to leave his life in suburbia to assist the CIA in finding the suspected mole who murdered his friend and mentor – the spymaster.

The trail leads to a former MI6 agent in charge of an Austrian banking operation. The former agent points Mr. Connelly to Kyiv, where Karen – a disgraced CIA agent who is working for Israeli intelligence – joins in the search for the killer.

The two live through the Ukrainian revolt that overthrew Viktor Yanukovych as president of Ukraine, search for the killer in the Chornobyl dead zone and Tel Aviv, and from there go to the streets of Cairo before uncovering the killer of their friend.

Mr. Miller has traveled to more than 100 countries as an international marketing executive, with extensive experience with the World Bank, United Nations Democracy Program, United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Vienna and the International Executive Service Corps in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
