ROUND LAKE PARK, Ill. – Golfers from across the nation gathered on a cool Indian Summer morning Saturday September 8, for the very popular and highly anticipated Plast-Chicago Open Charity Golf Classic, held at the Renwood Golf Course in Round Lake Beach, Ill., where the inaugural Plast-Chicago Golf Outing kicked off 20 years ago. 

BARABOO, Wis. – The Pobratymy fraternity of Plast Ukrainian Scouting Organization gathered on the weekend of September 28-30 at the American Ukrainian Youth Association (AUYA) campground Beskyd near Baraboo, Wis., for their 53rd meeting (“rada”). 

An opening 18 holes score of 64 saw his fellow duffers acknowledge his superior round with respectful nods. Coming back the next day with another 64 got the attention of those interested in the sport’s betting odds. A third-round tally of 65 and a four-stroke lead made him the man who would be followed by the gallery gods. Follow him they did, along with the rest of the field, as Matt Kuchar sat atop the leaderboard from start to finish at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, on November 8-11. He shot a 22-under with 262, breaking the tournament record by one stroke to earn the eighth PGA tour title of his career.

NEW YORK – Ukrainian Americans and their supporters came together at the landmark St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Saturday, November 17, for a solemn remembrance of the 85th anniversary of Ukraine’s genocide, the Holodomor of 1932-1933.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said Ukraine has “no greater friend than the United States” in its struggle against “Russian aggression.”

Mr. Pompeo made the remark after meeting with the Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Pavlo Klimkin in Washington on November 16.

KYIV – Five years on, Ukraine’s 2013-2014 Revolution of Dignity still symbolizes a definitive choice for democracy and integration with the European Union. It also was a rejection of ex-President Viktor Yanukovych’s kleptocratic and autocratic regime, according to findings from a comparative poll of political, economic and civil society experts over the last five years by the Kyiv-based Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives (DIF) think tank. 

Kremlin-orchestrated, internationally unrecognized “elections” were held on November 11 in the Donetsk and Luhansk “people’s republics” (DPR and LPR), Russian-controlled territories in Ukraine’s east. The final returns, made public on November 14, serve to confirm and prolong the authority of the “head of the republic” (“glava respubliki,” would-be president) and the “people’s council” (would-be legislature) in each of the two territories.

Ukraine’s presidential campaign is in full swing. Five months before the election (the first round is scheduled for March 31, 2019), it remains entirely unclear who the next head of state will be. Yet, the likeliest contenders are incumbent President Petro Poroshenko and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. The two could face off against one another in a second round, which would take place in April.
