PARSIPPANY, N.J. – The Ukrainian National Association (UNA) will hold its 40th quadrennial convention in May 2022. That convention will mark a pivotal moment for the UNA, which recently adopted a new corporate governance structure that replaced the organization’s Executive Committee with a new Corporate Board of Directors.

At the upcoming convention, delegates to the general assembly, which is the organization’s highest governing body, will elect the UNA’s next president/chief executive officer (CEO), a new Corporate Board of Directors, as well as members of the Audit Committee and the Fraternal Advisory Board. The newly-elected Board of Directors will then appoint a secretary/chief operating officer (COO) and a treasurer/chief financial officer (CFO) by a majority vote during its first organizational meeting after the convention.

PARSIPPANY, N.J. – A virtual winter gala, “Rekindle the Magic of Soyuzivka” that was hosted online on January 16 by the Ukrainian National Foundation, an affiliated company of the Ukrainian National Association, raised more than $200,000 to benefit the Soyuzivka Heritage Center in Kerhonkson, N.Y. The gala was organized with the aim of raising funds for the continued operation of Soyuzivka, which has faced significant financial hurdles as a result of ongoing pandemic restrictions. Those restrictions have temporarily shuttered the center’s camps, festivals and other in-person events.

The Ukrainian National Association is pleased to introduce to our readers Andrew Nynka, who on December 1, 2020, assumed the responsibilities of editor-in-chief of the UNA publications, Svoboda and The Ukrainian Weekly.

Mr. Nynka is an experienced and awarded journalist, researcher and teacher.  He has a doctorate in journalism from the University of Maryland’s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, a master’s degree in journalism from New York University, and a bachelor’s degree from Muhlenberg College. He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to Ukraine, where he conducted dissertation research and taught journalism at both the Ukrainian Catholic University and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

Along with the UNA General Assembly and the UNA staff, please join me in extending deep thanks and best wishes to Roma Hadzewycz, editor-in-chief of Svoboda and The Ukrainian Weekly, who will retire from the Ukrainian National Association on December 1, 2020.

For more than 43 years, Ms. Hadzewycz has been an indefatigable and respected member of the UNA fraternal family. Her contribution to our association has been invaluable and her commitment to excellence unequaled. Ms. Hadzewycz’s encyclopedic knowledge of UNA history will be greatly missed, as will her dedication, talent, professionalism and experience.
