UCC Ukraine Appeal provides “Ambulances for Ukraine”

More

OTTAWA – The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) Ukraine Appeal announce that eight ambulances from across Canada were shipped on October 19 to Ukraine as part of the “Ambulances for Ukraine” project (Phase 2). Two more ambulances were to be shipped the following week.

“Ambulances for Ukraine” was established in early 2015 in response to the dire humanitarian situation in Ukraine brought on by Russia’s invasion and ongoing war against Ukraine. Over 9,500 people have been killed, over 20,000 wounded or injured, and over 1.7 million displaced from their homes as a result of Russia’s aggression.

Four of the ambulances will be provided to clinics in Kharkiv, where a program with “mobile clinics” delivers basic health care to communities in need. Three ambulances will be provided to Ukraine’s Ministry of Health Emergency Services and Disaster Medicine, in Severdonetsk, Luhanska oblast, together with supplementary emergency equipment, trauma supplies and training. Three remaining ambulances will be provided to hospitals in Ternopil, Chernivtsi and Kharkiv.

“On behalf of the UCC Ukraine Appeal, I would like to sincerely thank our many partners and supporters from coast to coast in Canada who made this latest shipment of ambulances to Ukraine possible,” stated John Holuk, chair of the UCC Ukraine Appeal. “Thanks to their generous support and hard work, thousands of Ukrainian citizens will be provided quality emergency and medical services. Our partners can be proud of the fact that their persistent efforts will help save lives as the people of Ukraine continue to bravely defend their country from Russia’s invasion.”

Canada’s Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour MaryAnn Mihychuk, stated, “I am so proud to have worked with John and his team to deliver this critical assistance to our friends in Ukraine at a time of dire need. I salute the Ukrainian Canadian Congress, the provincial governments of Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and indeed the entire Ukrainian-Canadian community for their tireless work.”
